Service Areas
Our Volunteer Guild is made up of individuals with a genuine desire to make a difference. We welcome you to join the legacy of this incredible group of people. To help you find your perfect niche, please take a look at some of our volunteer opportunities:
Hospital Services
Volunteers are vital to NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital. The following service areas require a commitment of three to four hours a week on a regularly scheduled day.
Information Services:
At NorthBay, Volunteers greet patients and visitors, providing directions and assistance as well as setting the tone for the patients' experience at the Hospital. Volunteers may also support other Hospital departments by rolling bandages or completing paperwork. If you enjoy being on the front lines and have a friendly disposition, this might be the perfect place for you! .
Floor Host/Hostess:
If you don't like sitting in one place, perhaps you should consider working on the floor. A Floor Host / Hostess
- Offers directions
- Transports patients
- Moves records and paperwork from one unit to another
- Delivers flowers
- Offers visitors coffee
- Perform "care visits" with our patients.
Emergency Department:
The Emergency Departments are open 24 hours every day of the year and our Volunteers in the Emergency Department provide assistance and support to patients' families and hospital staff. Emergency Department Volunteers are not involved in medical procedures, however, they may witness some difficult situations. Our Emergency Department Volunteers' regular duties include:
- Stocking carts and shelves
- Making up exam rooms
- Transporting patients
- Moving records from one unit to another
- "Care visits" with our patients and families.
Clerical Support Volunteers:
Many of our departments need extra hands to keep the workload flowing. Several departments can use a "Guy or Gal Friday" to keep things moving. Several of our non-clinical departments have expressed a desire for clerical support. If you would like to lend your talents, but are not sure the hospital is right for you perhaps working with one of our ancillary services is more to your liking. Some of the departments using volunteer support include:
- Public Relations
- Administration
- Finance
- Patient Billing
- Information Services
COMMUNITY BENEFIT
Volunteers are part of our NorthBay family and join us when we are out and about in the community. If you are outgoing, friendly and enjoy a fast-paced day, this might be a wonderful way to share your time and talents. Volunteers may:
- Take blood pressure
- Provide additional education
- Act as ambassadors for NorthBay Healthcare
Additionally, Volunteers assist our marketing department with community programs such as:
- Day for Women
- Girls Night Out
- Tribute to Seniors
- Kid Fest
- Local employer health fair events
Fund-raising:
Fund-raising is one of the vital roles our Volunteers have taken on at NorthBay Healthcare. All of the funds raised by our Volunteers go to support NorthBay services and programs. Our fund-raising activities include operating gift and thrift shops as well as coordinating special in-house sales, quilt and craft sales, bake sales, penny wraps and hosting the most successful Golf Tournament in Solano County. As a Volunteer, you can be involved in as few or as many fundraising activities as you like. Choose from the following:
Gift Shop
Volunteers purchase, display and sell new gift items as well as flowers and candy in the gift shops at NorthBay Medical Center and VacaValley Hospital. Our gift shops are run entirely by our Volunteers. No previous retail experience is necessary. If you enjoy shopping and public contact, this may be the perfect opportunity for you.
Thrift Shop
Volunteers get to experience "cheap thrills." Our Thrift Shop is located in Vacaville and is operated entirely by Volunteers. From donation collection to displaying merchandise, thrift shop Volunteers are involved in all aspects of the business.
Special In-House Sales
Volunteers coordinate, promote and work at one-day sales held in our hospitals. If you cannot commit to a regular schedule, this may be perfect for you. Our sale schedule is generally completed a year in advance so you can compare it to your calendar.
Special Events
The Annual Guild Golf and Tennis Classic continues to be one of the most successful golf tournaments in Solano County. Volunteers work on the planning, implementation, and wrap-up phases of this event.
Volunteers are also needed for the Solano Wine & Food Jubilee, annual bake sales, and penny wraps.
PAW's for HEALING
NorthBay welcomes Canine Assisted Therapy at our facilities. We work closely with the local PAW's for Healing Chapter to provide this service in our facilities. If you and your best animal friend are interested in being part of a team trained to work with patients, we would love to talk with you.
