NorthBay Healthcare Foundation:

who we are

Who We Are, What We Do

The NorthBay Healthcare Foundation has been guided for more than 50 years by a simple, yet essential mission: To provide the community with the most skilled, modern and compassionate medical care available anywhere.

The NorthBay Healthcare Foundation meets its mission by serving as the fund-raising arm of the NorthBay Healthcare System. Through the efforts of the NorthBay Guild volunteers, donors and events such as the Solano Wine & Food Jubilee and the Golf & Tennis Classic, the Foundation has been instrumental in developing new medical services, expanding existing programs and acquiring cutting-edge technology to save the lives of those cared for each year by the doctors, nurses and staff of the NorthBay Healthcare System.

In its earliest efforts, the Foundation raised the necessary capital to open Intercommunity Hospital in 1957, which later became NorthBay Medical Center. In the 1980s, a successful $1.2 million fund-raising drive enabled NorthBay to open VacaValley Hospital in 1987.

Today, the Foundation's around-the-clock fund-raising efforts help maintain more than 60 programs that provide care that otherwise would not be available in our community, including:

• NorthBay Cancer Center - Remaining at the cutting-edge of clinical research, the NorthBay Cancer Center is dedicated to improving the lives of cancer patients with the most promising treatments available in a compassionate and supportive environment. Our experienced, expertly trained physicians have a record of success treating even the most aggressive cancers. We use a multi-disciplinary approach, which means you have a team of specialists on your side -- planning your treatment, coordinating your care and monitoring your progress. As the first accredited cancer center in Solano County, we maintain the highest professional standards set by American College of Surgeons. (707) 646-4000.

• NorthBay Hospice & Bereavement - Hospice is a special philosophy and method of caring for patients and families facing advancing stages of life-limiting illness. Hospice care elevates the quality of life, by relieving pain and symptoms, and providing compassionate support. With an emphasis on caring for individuals rather than curing a disease, hospice care maintains a patient's comfort while tending to needs of families and friends. The NorthBay Hospice team addresses emotional needs with education and counseling, respite services, spiritual and bereavement support. (707) 646-3595.

• 24-Hour Emergency Services - The NorthBay Medical Center and NorthBay VacaValley Hospital emergency departments provide the highest level of care available in upper Solano County. Our modern, state-of-the-art facilities were recently expanded and updated to offer the most advanced medical technology available to save lives while allowing more patient comfort and privacy. Dedicated to emergency care, our board-certified physicians and nurses receive specialized training to treat any urgent medical problem with compassion and respect. NorthBay Medical Center: (707) 646-5000. NorthBay VacaValley Hospital: (707) 624-7000.

• Wound Care Center - Solano County's only advanced wound care center has two locations. Our comprehensive outpatient approach to treat wounds that resist healing uses the most advanced therapies available. The Center succeeds in healing more than 95 percent of problem wounds within a 14-week course of treatment. (707) 624-7979.

• NorthBay Center for Pain Management - It takes a specialized approach to halt the cycle of chronic pain, and it starts with attention to individual concerns. The NorthBay Center for Pain Management brings advanced pain management care to Solano County, focusing on improving quality of life with a variety of treatment methods to help patients reach their unique goals. (707) 646-4666.

• ABC (A Baby is Coming) Prenatal Care Program - We believe all babies deserve a healthy start, and that's why the ABC Prenatal Program provides medical, nutritional, educational and social support to help guide local moms-to-be along toward a healthy pregnancy and delivery. The program is designed for all pregnant women covered by the Partnership Health Plan of California (the local Medi-Cal HMO), Medi-Cal and those who have no insurance, but any pregnant woman can use ABC. Our staff of physicians, nurse practitioners, health educators, dietitian, social worker and support personnel are fluent in Spanish and English. (707) 646-4166.

• Adult Day Center - Our supervised group program is the only one in Solano County to offer an all day, five day a week respite program for caregivers. We provide enjoyable activities for those with Alzheimer's disease and other memory loss disorders. Participants benefit from social interaction and our specialized therapeutic program, while caregivers gain time during the day to work or recharge. (707) 624-7970.

• Other programs and educational services for infants, mothers, children and the elderly.

More recently, NorthBay Healthcare Foundation helped fund the creation of the NorthBay Heart & Vascular Center, which opened in 2009. The Heart & Vascular Center, located in NorthBay Medical Center, provides heart patients with an array of life-saving procedures, including open heart surgery, providing Advanced Medicine, Compassionate Care, Close to Home.
