Dr. Kulbir Bajwa is a marathon runner who is looking forward to running in the California International Marathon on Dec. 4. Not only does she enjoy the race, but this year it takes on added significance. She is using the occasion to raise funds for the NorthBay Cancer Center, in memory of her mother.
Support for Dr. Bajwa's fund-raising efforts is gaining traction in a number of ways.
Not only has she already raised more than $1,100 toward her goal of $5,000, but now her co-workers are joining in the effort. Dr. Shazad Anwar, fellow physician at the NorthBay Center for Primary Care in Vacaville, has organized a bowling night at Stars Recreation Center for Nov. 5, starting at 2 p.m. The event includes two games, pizza and non-alcoholic drinks for $25 per person. All NorthBay employees, their friends and families are invited to participate, and the proceeds from the bowling party will go to Dr. Bajwa's fund-raising efforts. "We want to fill up the bowling alley with so many supporters, they may have to call the fire department," he laughed.
Dr. Bajwa also plans on attending Girls Night Out on Oct. 7, where she will be on hand to offer running advice and to accept any potential donations. Girls Night Out will be held at the Vacaville Performing Arts Theater and tickets are still available. For ticket information, call 646-4267.
